Facebook bans ad for user advertising his Google+ account

A FaceBook friend of mine (Michael Lee Johnson – http://www.facebook.com/mljlive) recently ran an ad promoting his Google+ account within the FaceBook advertising network. Michael is believed to be the first person to run an ad to promote their Google+ account within the FaceBook advertising network.

The Facebook ad read:

Add Michael to Google+
If you’re lucky enough to have a Google+ account, add Michael Lee Johnson. Internet Geek, App Developer, Technological Virtuoso.

Within 24 hours all of his ads were suspended from the Facebook advertising network.

Michael was presented with the following message from FaceBook in regards to his advertising campaigns being banned:

Your account has been disabled. All of your adverts have been stopped and should not be run again on the site under any circumstances. Generally, we disable an account if too many of its adverts violate our Terms of Use or Advertising guidelines. Unfortunately we cannot provide you with the specific violations that have been deemed abusive. Please review our Terms of Use and Advertising guidelines if you have any further questions.

After reading the terms and conditions for FaceBook advertisements, we found that there is one stipulation that this ad may have fallen under…

Taken from the FaceBook Advertising Guidelines:

Refusal of Ads
We may refuse ads at any time for any reason, including our determination that they promote competing products or services or negatively affect our business or relationship with our users.

Personally I don’t think that the ad was promoting a competing service. It was promoting a person. It this the reason that FaceBook refused to give the user a solid reason as to why his ads were banned?

What are your thoughts? Do you feel that Michael was advertising a competing product? Or merely self promotion?
